The history of the Department of Chemistry dates back to 1929. The local community of chemists comprises largely graduates of our Department, in the National University of Singapore, and our predecessors, the University of Singapore and Nantah.
Our alumni are working over many different sectors in the region, including chemical industry, manufacturing, engineering, R&D, education, administration, services, etc. etc. Many of our alumni have been very successful in their pursuits and hold influential positions in their respective institutions.
There has never been a strong network among our alumni, however. There used to be very limited interaction also between our alumni and the Department. The setting up of CAN - Chemistry Alumni Network, is the first step towards forging a better link between the Department and its alumni. We are also hoping that this initial effort will "catalyze" the networking among our alumni and eventually lead to a strong and dynamic alumni community!
