Human Resource
Long Term Vision
- Build up strength of organization through periodic recruitment
We aim to expand the organization by attracting and recruiting undergraduates with a keen interest in scientific research as well as in managing business.
- Create a management framework supported by a strong team of undergraduate research talents.
Through recruitment and expansion, we look forward in transforming the organization into a stable management framework, backed by a strong pool of potential research talents. The role of the management will be to organize these undergraduates and assist them in designing projects, with the ultimate aim of showcasing their results to NUS as well as public and private corporations.
- Build up awareness and reputation as an educational and research hub
Through our organization, undergraduates will be well versed in both management and research skills. Hence, we offer an innovative method of learning on top of the standard curriculum. With this in mind, we aim to build up awareness and reputation of our organization within NUS and even expand this sphere of influence out to the research industries.
- Create an Employer’s Portal to reach out to corporations
With a strong team of talents and excellent results in research, we can establish our organization as a research hub where corporations can approach us through the Employer’s Portal for their research projects as well as to enquire about our talents.
Short Term Goals
- Attract and recruit TA’s involvement in program
TAs will provide mentorship and guidance to our undergraduates in their research projects, as well as the execution of the program.
- Attract and recruit interested undergraduates into program
We aim to recruit undergraduates with a keen interest in our program during every semester. They are mostly from the Science Faculty of NUS, but we are also looking at reaching out to the undergraduates from the Engineering faculty. A recruitment talk is in the planning stages, and it will be held before the mid semester break. Selection, interviews and a hands-on practical session will be conducted during the term vacation. This is a part of our long term vision in expanding our organization.
- Funding from faculty
As our organization is providing an educational service to the faculty, we are currently in discussion of a possible funding from the faculty to aid in the running of our organization. This signifies the strong support we have from the faculty and the potential for this organization to grow and achieve success.

Recruitment
- Recruitment Drive
A recruitment talk will be held before the mid semester break to create awareness of the program among the undergraduates. Representatives from all the departments and research groups will present during the talk, to let the undergraduates have an understanding of the program. Application into the program will commence during this period.
During the term vacation, interviews and hands-on practical sessions will be conducted for interested applicants. Therefore by the start of the every semester, the program will welcome its new batch of members.
- Policy of Recruitment of Members
We are seeking individuals with interest in research as well as in acquiring knowledge in business planning. They have to be responsible and committed during the entire length of the program.
- Application Form Questions
Each interested applicant will need to fill up the existing application form in order of us to process the application. The questions will be revised periodically to ensure that they are relevant, and enough for us to gauge their interest in research and capability in managing challenges.
Interview sessions may be conducted to understand the applicants better.
- Letter of Confidentiality Agreement
Upon admission into the program, all members have to complete a Letter of Confidentiality Agreement. Hence, all members are to abide by the terms laid out in the letter.
- Testimonials
Upon completion of the program, each member will receive a testimonial acknowledged by the professors in the program. It illustrates the hard work and effort put in by each member, the results achieved by the member in terms of research and management, as well as the recognition they deserve. This adds value to their resume, and gives them an edge above the rest of their cohort.
We would also like the faculty and private corporations to give us their testimonies on our program. These would greatly affirm our work, and raise our reputation as an educational and research hub.
Future Plans
- Employer’s Portal
Introduction:
An Employer’s Portal can be created to allow corporate organizations to tap on our pool of research talents for their research projects or future employment. These corporations can benefit from the low cost of research done in the university’s laboratory, yet having young and emerging research talents working on their projects. In addition, this portal will become very useful when they are searching for talents to join their R&D teams during recruitment.
Framework:
A database of all our members will be created in this portal. Corporations will be able to view the particulars of all our research members and understand them further through their write up about themselves. Information on their past, present and future research projects will also be made available online for viewing.
All students doing UROPS may display their particulars, research progress and results on this portal. This would greatly expand our pool of talent that can be made available to the private corporations.
Targeted Response:
We hope that by using this portal, corporations will understand our role much better, and refer to this portal when it comes to recruiting new members into their research teams. They can also come to us when they are offering internship positions in research appointments. We aim to see successful cases whereby undergraduates move on to research or non research careers and achieve greater heights with the help of this portal.
Financial Benefits:
As the portal gains its recognition, we can charge these corporations a nominal fee for accessing our database. The funds can then be used for further improvements to our program.
- Funding From Faculty
In this program, we educate and develop undergraduates into talents in the field of scientific research, as well as competent leaders in business planning and management, by incorporating them into the running of the program. Hence, we serve an educational role, by equipping our undergraduates with strong analytical skills and quantitative skills. This puts them at higher standing compared to the rest of the cohort. Therefore, we would like the faculty to support us in our work by setting aside funds which can help us in the running of the program. This support signifies the trust and confidence the faculty has in our program that it can achieve its purpose and do even more to enhance the skills and knowledge that each and every undergraduate can learn during the years in university.
The proposed uses for the funds include publicity for the programs and administrative use. However, as we grow in terms of size and recognition, we can also use the funds to send our members for conferences, seminars, and even help our members for their poster presentation.
