Perkin Elmer Optima 5300DV

Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES)

Determination of metals in solutions for identification and differentiation of elemental metals down to ppm levels.

An ICP requires that the elements which are to be analyzed be in acid/water matrix, therefore prior to ICP analysis, sample preparation is required.  The nebulizer transforms the aqueous sample solution into an aerosol and introduced into the plasma. The light emitted by the atoms of an element in the ICP (specific wavelength for each element line) has a specific wavelength that is characteristic of the element and the intensity is proportional to the concentration of the element present.  This technique is suitable for trace elemental analyses.
