Electron Microscopy (EM) Room houses two fundamental instruments for morphological and elemental analyses of materials, namely scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Two types of SEM are available in the laboratory: conventional SEM and Field-Emission SEM. Having a better resolution, the latter is one of the indispensable tools in characterizing materials with feature size less than 100nm. With the installation of an energy dispersive spectrometer, this instrument offers quick elemental analysis as well! TEM in the laboratory, on the other hand, is equipped with a LaB6 emission gun and with a significantly better resolving power, it is capable of imaging down to the atomic scale!
