Magical Chemistry - A Demonstration

As a part of the National Chemistry week, demonstrations of simple chemistry experiments will be conducted in primary and secondary schools.

In this demonstration, some simple chemistry experiments will be carried out using things that are easily available off the shelf in a supermarket. However, for experiments involving liquid nitrogen, sodium hydroxide and indicators(which are not easily available) student volunteers from the audience will be invited to conduct these experiments. These experiments explain simple concepts in chemistry which students would otherwise find boring and irrelevant. Hopefully students will appreciate the chemistry of things around them, after this demonstration. Students will be informed about the effects of doing experiments at home without adequate knowledge of the 'ingredients' involved in the experiment.
