Research Interests
Research in my group is directed towards the synthesis, characterisation and applications of functional conducting and conjugated polymers. We have reported the first ever water-soluble self-doping polyaniline without the need of post-treatment. 
Our recent synthetic efforts involve the designing of soluble polythiophenes with tunable band gaps and processability for use as Langmuir Blodgett thin film sensors, chromic devices and optoelectronic materials. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has been widely used to study the electronic structure of the polymers and the polymer-dopant interaction. We have shown conclusively that protonation in polyanilines occurs on both the amine and imine nitrogen atoms.

We have developed a number of polythiophene-based biosensors and chemical sensors by utilizing either the redox or charge-selective property of the polymer film. The coating of quartz microbalance sensors with functional polymers by the LB deposition technique is being actively pursued in the laboratory. We are currently working on polymer/inorganic hybrids
