Research Interests

Bioorganometallic Chemistry

Our group works with Prof T S Andy Hor on "Bioorganometallic Chemistry", where the chemistry of the metal-carbon bonds is a central feature with a focus on structural aspects of organometallic complexes that contain bioligands and that have been evaluated as pharmaceuticals or probes.

Development of New Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiopharmaceuticals

Based on the “bioorganometallic approach”, many new and useful diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals can be developed by using low-valent Tc and Re complexes. We have developed a class of 186/188Re(I)-lipohilic complexes conjugated to aliphatic C18 chains which are found to be retained in the liver and potentially useful for internal radiation therapy of  hepatocellular carcinoma. This approach can be readily extended to development of many new radiopharmaceuticals and probes using different radiometals, radiohalogens and other radioisotopes.

Molecular Imaging

The goal of our Molecular Imaging Integrated Project is to generate and apply novel advanced technology for non-invasive imaging of biomolecular function in living systems ranging from single cells (e.g. stem cells) to whole animals. Main areas for technological innovation are:

  • Generation of new biosensors enabling novel ways of functional contrast
  • Improving resolution of microscopic and tomographic imaging systems, and
  • Creating new multimodal imaging setups combining different contrast modes.
