Department Awards
The Department of Chemistry bestows research, teaching and service (the latter for non-academic staff) awards to recognise and honour our academic and non-academic staff for their excellence in research, teaching, and service. We also recognize our outstanding students (both undergraduates and graduate students). The awards are categorised into:
Research Awards
Outstanding Chemist Award
The Outstanding Chemist Award (OCA) is awarded annually to senior researchers (Associate Professor and above) based on their impact and strong research publication record in their area of expertise in the previous year. Each year, up to two persons may receive the award.
Eligibility:
- A recipient of the award is not eligible within the same category for a period of 3 years.
- No application is necessary. The candidates will be identified from the annual review process (under research)

Young Chemist Award
The Young Chemist Award (YCA) is conferred annually on assistant professors (or equivalent) based on the potential impact of their respective areas of research. This research work should have been carried out independently by the nominee at the Department of Chemistry, NUS, in the previous year. Each year, up to two persons may receive the award.
Eligibility:
- A recipient of the award is not eligible within the same category for a period of 3 years.
- No application is necessary. The candidates will be identified from the annual review process (under research)

Non-Academic Staff Awards
Non-academic staff members are eligible for the Best Support Staff Awards in the Administrative, Teaching Laboratory, and Service Laboratory categories depending on their responsibilities in the respective areas. Winners are based on intranet voting by the staff themselves, academic staff and students. In addition, there are also “Health is Wealth” awards given to those with good medical leave records (no medical leave taken over the preceding one year).

Student Awards (Undergraduate Students)
Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Gold Award
Awarded to the most outstanding graduating student in Applied Chemistry for either the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science or the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours).
GlaxoSmithKline Gold Medals
Awarded to the Best Student in Level 3 Chemistry and the Best Student in Level 3 Applied Chemistry.
Goh Teng Loon-Wong Kim Lo Medal
Awarded to a graduating student at Department of Chemistry who has achieved academic excellence throughout B.Sc. education.
Lijen Industrial Development Medal
Awarded to the honours year students with the best academic exercises/projects in each of the disciplines in the Faculty of Science.
Pfizer Gold Medal
Awarded to the Student with Best Honours Project in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Enzymatic Catalysis or Advanced Analytical Techniques.
Schering-Plough Gold Medal
Awarded to the best student in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science (UROPS) in the Department of Chemistry.
Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Book Prizes
Awarded to the Best Student in Level 1 and level 2 Chemistry as well as the Best Student in Level 1 and Level 2 Applied Chemistry.
Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Gold Medal
Awarded to the Best Student in Level 4 (Honours) Chemistry.

Student Awards (Graduate Students)
Lim Chin Kuan Book Prize
Awarded to the Best Student of each intake in the Master of Science in Chemistry by coursework.
Sim Geok Soo Medal
Awarded to Graduating Master of Science in Chemistry by Coursework Student with the best project thesis.
Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Gold Medal
Awarded to the Student who has submitted the Most Outstanding MSc thesis and the Student who has submitted the Most Outstanding PhD thesis.
