.Materials Chemistry: Materials science is an interdisciplinary subject in which properties and applications of new molecules and materials are explored using fundamentals of science and engineering. It is necessary to develop new energy sources, water purification technologies, zero emission technologies and sustainable technologies to be cost and resource effective. Design, synthesis, characterization and structure-property investigation of materials are key to develop new technologies and cost/energy efficient devices. Environmentally friendly technologies, sustainable materials for energy harvesting, pollutant removal and biomedical applications are the emerging areas of research in the department. Faculty members in the department are involved in broad research areas ranging from molecular (e.g. catalysts, porous networks), polymeric (e.g. plastics, composites, hybrids) and nanomaterials (e.g. nanoparticles, nanofibers, graphenes). The department also houses a range of state-of the-art facilities for materials characterization.
