Chemistry: The Central Science
The chemistry undergraduate curriculum by Professor Fan Wai Yip, Deputy Head of Education, Department of Chemistry, NUS

Find out how you can enrich your learning experiences by studying abroad, undertaking internships or research projects, obtaining prestigious awards, and participating in many other learning opportunities and activities in NUS.

Surprising Science! ~ Carbon Dioxide - Harmful or Useful ?
by Professor Jason Yeo, Department of Chemistry, NUS

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas. High concentrations of it will lead to harmful climate changes. Prof Yeo shows how to convert CO2 to high value molecules, such as ethylene and ethanol. This transformation is achieved by using cheap copper catalysts, water and electricity, which can be generated renewably using solar panels.

Surprising Science! ~ One Degree, Many Opportunities!
A menagerie of career opportunities for the NUS Chemistry Major by Professor Ryan Bettens

What are my career options as a chemistry graduate? Just a scientist in a laboratory coat, testing reactions in fancy glass test tubes? The answer is NO!
Professor Bettens explains how studies in chemistry open the door to many career opportunities in diverse sectors.

Chemistry is Everywhere!

It's in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. In fact, the human body is one huge complex system of molecules interacting with one another. Learn here about the wonderful chemistry that is happening around us and how it shapes our daily lives! Watch the series of 1-min video below created by our chemistry undergraduate, Ms Shaphyna.

Hear from our Alumni

As one of the leading chemistry departments in the region, we have been consistently ranked among the Top 10 departments in the world for the past 5 years. We are proud to have more than 10,000 alumni working in diverse sectors such as engineering, science, medicine, law, and business. Learn about how chemistry play an important role in the work they do!

Life as a Chemistry Student

#ChemNUS has made significant contributions to chemistry education and research locally and globally. Our students are subjected to rigorous training, not only in raw chemistry knowledge but also in other soft skills such leadership, communication, and management.
